Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

March 12, 2020

How is Project: VISION taking steps to plan for a possible COVID-19 Outbreak in Chicago

Project: VISION  (PV) is committed to protecting the health of our staff and students that we serve.

As testing of COVID-19 becomes more widely available, Project: VISION is actively planning and will closely monitor for any updates provided by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH), Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and state and federal authorities.  PV will follow the same regulations as CPS and will follow the guidance provided by the CDC, CPDH and IDPH.

Project: VISION Staff or students who have traveled to any location (including airport layovers) with widespread community transmission of COVID-19 should stay home for 14 calendar days after their return date

Per CPS regulations, Project: VISION will also follow these protocols:

If you’re sick, you must stay home.

  • Students and staff who have symptoms of acute respiratory illness, may not come to PV until they are free of fever (oral temperature below 100.4°F) for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications
  • Symptoms of acute respiratory illness include:
    • congestion of either nasal sinuses or lungs
    • runny nose
    • cough
    • sore throat
    • body aches
    • fatigue

What are the symptoms of COVID-19

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Difficulty breathing

If you have been in close contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and have developed symptoms described above within 14 days, seek medical advice. Call the office of your health care provider before you go and tell them of your symptoms and travel (if applicable) or contact with confirmed COVID-19 patients.

  • Share workplace with people, face to face contact

If your child becomes ill at Project: VISION, we will ask you to take them home immediately.

  • If you’re not feeling well, we encourage you to go straight home and avoid crowds and public spaces, if possible.
  • If you have a child who needs to be sent home:
  • PV will contact the person(s) listed as parent or legal guardian. If they cannot be reached, PV will contact the individual listed on the student’s emergency contact form.
    • Until your child is picked up, PV will keep them under supervision in a suitable location away from other students.

What is Project: VISION doing to prevent the spread of COVID-19

  • PV has increased cleaning operations to ensure that frequently touched surfaces in the center are cleaned and disinfected frequently throughout the day.
  • This includes regularly wiping down surfaces with disinfectant wipes and disinfectant spray
  • Students MUST use hand sanitizer before checking out any technology at the center to avoid spreading any germs
  • PV is educating all students, tutors and staff on good hygiene practices by speaking to everyone and posting more information around the center.

What to do to protect myself and my family:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer (containing at least 60-95% alcohol)
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue (or an elbow or shoulder if no tissue is available), then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Stay informed with credible news sources, and numbers and data have citation sources.

  • What is going to happen to programming at Project: VISION?

    • Programs will go on as scheduled unless otherwise noted
    • PV will avoid bringing students to places with mass gathers of 100 or  more people

Lastly, please let us know if your student or a close contact of the student (such as a household member) is being monitored for COVID-19 or has confirmed COVID-19, so that we can take the proper actions to protect the other students and families who use PV services.
