PROJECT: VISION ALUM SELECTED FOR SPECIAL SCHOLARSHIP

September 2018

We are proud to share that another former Project: VISION student, Hongjie Jiang, has been awarded a scholarship from The 11-10-02 Foundation (www.ShakingUpAmerica.org)! Now in its 19th year, the volunteer-run foundation selects its Scholars through a multi-step process. First, it selects Nominators who are familiar with students within their communities. Once chosen, the Nominators receive the opportunity to recommend a student with financial need who fits the Foundation’s criteria and priorities — which focus on qualities like kindness, promptness and work ethic. Then, the nominees are given the chance to answer questions and provide information to the Foundation’s Board. As one of The 11-10-02 Foundation Scholars, Hongjie receives a financial scholarship to help with his university tuition and will now have a chance to interact with some of the Foundation’s volunteers and its former Scholars.

Hongjie first joined Project: VISION as a sixth grader in the Middle School program. He was a mature student, focused on his goals and optimistic in the face of challenges. This year, he graduated Jones College Preparatory to attend the Illinois Institute of Technology to study Civil Engineering. With this scholarship, he plans to give back to the 3 communities that shaped him into who he is today: the community in which he lives now, the greater global community, and the Project: VISION community in which he once benefited from.

Hongjie continues to strive for success, dedicating his time to his education, building upon his interests, and giving back to those who supported him in his journey. Hongjie chooses to give back to Project: VISION by returning to the center as a tutor on Mondays and Thursdays and uses what he has learned in school to manage and upkeep all of PV’s technology on Fridays. Congratulations, Hongjie! We’re so proud of your accomplishments and can’t wait to see what you’ll do next!
