FESTIVAL OF TREES

November 2017

Our kids came together during winter break to help spread some holiday spirit in Chinatown for the Festival of Trees at Allen Lee Plaza. The Illinois Institute of Technology IPRO program partnered with the Coalition for A Better Chinese American Community (CBCAC) to re-imagine the use of public spaces and build community in Chinatown. Each community organization including Project: VISION was tasked with decorating their own trees made from repurposed wood to display in the plaza.
The students used their creativity to paint Christmas trees, spending the day preparing, sanding, painting, and decorating all three trees. They had a great time working together and getting a chance to express their artistry! The students chose to decorate the trees with words they felt embodies what Project: VISION means to them. These included:

  • Legacy
  • Education
  • Passionate
  • Leader
  • Motivation
  • Teamwork
  • Engaging
  • Encouragement
  • Community Service
  • Fun

We are incredibly proud of our students’ creativity and the positive impression they wish to leave to the Chinatown community.
