PARENT MENTOR MEETING WITH REP. MAH

MAY 2021

The Parent Mentors, Coordinators, and Organizers from the Illinois Parent Mentor Program met with Representative Theresa Mah to share the parent mentors’ accomplishments this year and advocated for a $7 million budget increase for next year’s program. Parent Mentors and PV parents, Yufeng Lu and Kristine Huang provided live testimonies about their experiences virtually working with Haines and Ward students.

Project: VISION was also joined by 2 other organizations in the 2nd district, The Resurrection Project and the Brighton Park Neighborhood Council. This is the first time all 3 organizations have collaborated for the same meeting. There were over 60 people in attendance and each organization shared how the additional funding would benefit their schools and communities.

We are the only primarily Asian American community in Illinois to participate in this program which has given us the platform to continue serving community youth by supporting their parents. PMP allowed us to create meaningful and sustainable parent engagement in our schools and classrooms for this historically underrepresented community.

We are inspired to do even more next year!

Thanks to PV Program Coordinator Tammy for running such a productive meeting!
